NICK FRAMPTON / NCKFRMPTN / VISUALS BY: NCKFRMPTN

nckfrmptn, otherwise known as Nick Frampton, is an indie/experimental hip-hop/rap artist currently based out of Baltimore, Maryland. Although Nick is influenced by and comes from a mostly emo/punk-rock and metal background, rap has always been a passion of his as a listener and creator. Nick’s wide range of influence and interest are a reflection of him as an artist and a person.

Nick first began making music out of boredom one night late alone in his room in 2010. From then it went from making parody songs with his friends, to creating conceptual songs and projects under the alias, nckfrmptn. Although Nick is naturally introverted as a person, creating is his outlet to express himself musically and-or visually as an artist.

Not only does Nick use art as an outlet to express himself, but also as an opportunity to spread positivity and give back to the community through philanthropy. Nick has taken advantage of opportunities as nckfrmptn to show up and surprise young fans on their birthday, as well as use his performances as charity events to benefit various organizations.

KRISTIN FORBES AKA LADY HATCHET

Kristin Forbes was born to be a musician. A distant relative of the composer Tchaikovsky, she has been playing music since she was three, when she heard a song on the radio, went to the family piano, and figured out how to play it. She started playing guitar in high school and in college, upon playing in her first band, realized that pursuing music was the life she had to live.

She recorded and toured as a solo artist for years in Boston before moving to Washington, DC to play keys with The Travis Morrison Hellfighters (frontman of The Dismemberment Plan). It was in DC in 2005 that she met Olivia Mancini and picked up bass to play in her band, Olivia Mancini & The Mates. She also went on to play bass in The Andalusians, who have a 7″ on DC’s seminal punk label, Dischord Records.

Kristin now lives in Baltimore and has rediscovered her love for playing Jamaican music. Dubbed Lady Hatchet by her peers, Kristin fronts The Scotch Bonnets, her ska-rocksteady band that also serves as an outlet for her song-writing. The Bonnets have backed and recorded with HR, singer from Bad Brains, and in spring of 2015, the Bonnets did a three-week tour of the eastern States backing Roddy Radiation, lead guitarist of The Specials.

She also considers herself “the utility infielder” in Baltimore’s premiere ska-reggae band The Players, because with them she will play guitar, bass, even keys if necessary! In 2011, Kristin spent a month on the Vans Warped Tour playing with Angelo Moore, singers/saxophonist from Fishbone, and the songs they wrote during this collaboration were released in 2015 on the Japanese album Ska Do Au Ska Don’t. Kristin spent some time in 2013 in the band of NYC ska capo King Django, and in 2015, she filled in on guitar with NYC’s longtime Jamaican music stalwarts The Slackers on their European and Canadian tours.

For eight years, Kristin worked at GIGS, a rock’n’roll music school in Kensington, MD, teaching guitar, bass, drums, and voice. Now, she teaches lessons independently and sometimes she can often be found performing solo at Baltimore and DC farmers’ markets and acoustic clubs. When filling out tax forms and loan applications, Kristin is very grateful to write “professional musician” on the occupation line.

RENE PIERRE

Art has been a passion of mine from a very young age. It is an outlet of expression like none other. I see it as an opportunity to create perspective and add unique dynamics to people, places and things. I have been drawing and painting most of my life for my own personal enjoyment. It has always been a source of joy and I feel blessed to have been given these skills

I got my start in the professional world of art late in life. It all started when I decided to share my passion and my gifts with others. That year all Christmas presents I gave were paintings based on the connection I had with the person. It was a rewarding process that yielded unexpected results. I started being approached for commissioned work.

My philosophy is simple: I find joy in art and desire to share that joy with others. All of my work is customized based on the client and subject of the piece. Take a look at my portfolio to see the unique perspective my work offers.

STEVE HUNG

Steve Hung is the latest addition to Baltimore’s music scene, with his recent transition from Austin, TX, dubbed “The Live Music Capital of the World.” He got his start at age 18, playing open mic at the legendary folk venue Cactus Café (Janis Joplin, Abra More, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen), soaking up the various sounds of Americana that permeate the Austin music scene. Steve quickly gained a reputation as “a killer guitar player” and “a Cactus favorite.”

Like other Texas musicians such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and ZZ Top, Steve fuses blues riffs and licks into his guitar playing as well as playing folk and other forms of Americana music. However, over the years, Steve has broadened his musical vocabulary to incorporate Chet Atkins-style guitarwork, Jazz chordal flavoring, and the sensitivity of Spanish/Classical guitar, something he picked up recently while living in Baltimore.

Steve’s debut album, Geetar (July 2008) showcases the Texas musical influences he grew up with, featuring everything from gritty groovy blues, wailing harmonica shuffles, ornamented folk finger-playing, to screeching slide guitars. His most recent album Guitar Gumbo (2013) testifies to his ever-evolving guitar playing. Although firmly rooted in the blues, this album is a “gumbo” of various musical styles, ranging from Country, Folk, to Jazz. Traces of Chet Atkins, Johnny A, Joe Pass, and Stevie Ray Vaughan can be heard in his playing.

SARA HURWITZ

Hiya, folks! I’ve been writing songs for years. Unfortunately, the little bastards wouldn’t stop haunting me until I learned how to play them. So about 6 months ago, I began the torturous process of teaching myself the guitar and keyboard, and singing in front of audiences in bars. That’s how at the age of 23, I started learning and growing again. Hopefully, we can learn and grow together. I love how my music is always changing and evolving.

Let’s be real. I only write songs about things I care about. It’s my brain’s way of sorting out problems, questions, and observations about the world. If you have laughed, gotten pissed off, or reflected on something by the end of a song, then the song is a success. Us musicians don’t know a better way to dump feelings than onto you, the listener! You don’t have to walk away at the end of it, though; let’s have a dialogue.

NERRA MUHAMMAD

Nerra Muhammad is a highly dynamic, passionate, and creative art entrepreneur whose work of visual arts and poetry speaks to the beauty, power and value of the woman. Ever since she was a small child, Nerra has been inspired to speak her mind through her artistic expression.

At the blossoming age of 14 years old, Nerra started writing poetry about mature ideas such as love, intimacy, trust and so many other important topics that would empower her to become the woman she desired to be. By the time Nerra was 21 years old, she had already written two unpublished poetry books called Rebel Rebel and 21 and Over. Once she turned 27, she wrote and completed her third poetry book called Black Girl Gone Wrong. All of her works have highlighted the pain, strength, trials and triumphs of a young black woman who falls in love only to find herself.

Along with writing, Nerra is highly passionate about the education of children. She has taught many populations including special needs students and out of school youth. Her passion for education has drove her to see the “big picture” to understand that true education not only happens in the classroom, but also in the community where the next generation can grow in the knowledge of themselves and render service to others.

In 2015, this passion has fueled her desire to work in the community, using her skills as an upcoming educator, to serve as the Education Committee Chair for the Peace By Piece Baltimore (PXP) program for the American Friends Service Committee. As the Education Committee chair, Nerra was responsible for the educational initiatives of PXP such as the Summer of Us Leadership Camp of 2015. As she worked with PXP, Nerra’s activism opened many doors for her to speak on important issues such as police brutality, education inequality, self-improvement and the role of women on various platforms including TV shows such as The Ed Gordon Show. Plus, she was invited to be a contributing voice on the radio show “Listen Up!” on 88.9 WEAA FM as part of the monthly segment “Ladies of Listen Up!” where she shares her powerful story and perspective.

In October 2016, Nerra took her love and work to the next level when she became the founder of the company, I Call Her Queen LLC (ICHQ). ICHQ is the for profit venture that allows Nerra to sell her art, poetry and hand crafted body art. ICHQ also serves as a platform for women to have real, relevant and conscious conversations about sexuality, relationships, love, health, beauty and the role of women in society. Plus, Nerra is a Senior at Morgan State University majoring in Family and Consumer Science. She will earn her degree in Summer 2017.

Finally, through all of her personal experiences and life’s work, Nerra continues to remain authentic, humble and inspiring to women and young people.

Artist Biography

Karen Raukko Ruberry grew up on the shores of a small, quiet creek, loving and enjoying the water and rural farm fields surrounding her childhood home. She still lives in northeast Baltimore County.

Her interactions with art began with projects in elementary school and high school that included watercolor painting. She attended MICA, CCBC and graduated with honors from Goucher College with a B.A. in Art, and has a M.Ed from Loyola University.

She has worked in education at the Walters Art Museum and graphic arts, sewn and sold cloth dolls, and made handmade greeting cards. Mrs. Ruberry taught art at St. Ursula School in Parkville, MD for over 20 years, and home school art for the Y of Central Maryland. She returned to painting in watercolor when she retired, studying with James Drake Iams and Dorothy Bishop.

The rural life of Baltimore County, Maryland and Pennsylvania are captured in her paintings, and her memories of life on the Chesapeake takes the viewer on a rambling tour through the region.

THE SCOTCH BONNETS

The Scotch Bonnets are funky reggae rockers from Baltimore, Maryland. They are fearlessly led by singer/guitarist Kristin Forbes aka ‘Lady Hatchet.’ Her strong voice soars over classic Jamaican groves adapted to her American singer/songwriter style. It’s party music with a bit of soulful angst that makes you listen to the lyrics as much as move to the beats. And at their shows, it is near impossible not to dance, as their live energy is viseral and infectious.

The Bonnets have become a local favorite at summer festivals, the go-to support band for national acts (such as The English Beat, The Slackers, The Skints, etc), and a favorite summer beach band along the Cheseapeake Bay shores. In 2015, the band built up their road chops as the backing band for Roddy Radiation, lead guitarist of The Specials, on a three-week tour of the USA.

Since their start in 2009, the Bonnets have released one full length album, Live Ya Life (2012) and Quest (2014), an EP done in collaboration with legendary hardcore singer HR of Bad Brains. Released by Baltimore’s flagship label Morphius Records, the songs were culled from sessions done recording a version of “It’s On”, the lead off track to Morphius’ 20th anniversary compilation, Morphius XX (2015).

In 2015, the band gained more attention with their cover of ‘Tropical London’ on Smelvis Records’ Hooligans United, a tribute compilation of Rancid tunes. The Bonnet’s video for this song has since been viewed on YouTube over eleven thousand times.

On the horizon, the Bonnets eagerly await the release of The District 7”, their first foray into vinyl. A love letter of sorts to Washington, DC, the two tracks were mixed by Slackers’ guitarist Agent Jay. The band also will have their version of “Let’s Dance” mixed by King Django for Baltimore Does Bowie, Morphius’ upcoming tribute to David Bowie, and version of “Are You Ready” on Crooked Beat Records’ reinterpretation of The Clash’s final album, Cut The Crap. They are also writing and recording new material for their second full length, which should be completed and released in 2017. The journey is continually evolving for these reggae cats and is just beginning to pick up speed. Lookout, 2017; the sky’s the limit for The Scotch Bonnets!

CHYNA MAE / YOUR DESTINY’S DREAM LLC.

All my life I knew I wanted to be an artist and I started competing in art shows since kindergarten. I started off by teaching myself about art from books and videos at my local library. I got my first professional graphic design job at 16 for Damon Foreman’s Music Academy, where I taught myself how to use the Adobe professional programs. At this job I was able to create my first advertisements, promotions, logos, full album cover and CD. I also competed in numerous art shows and received many awards for my accomplishments throughout my entire educational career. I’ve attend numerous colleges and later decided to attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to obtain my Graphic Design degree. Since education is never ending continue to further my knowledge regularly with a variety of college courses, workshops, webinar and DIY lessons. I always thoroughly analyze everything I take on and if I don’t know, I will teach myself to become an expert in any situation.

While in College I took a class called Electronic Design where I had to create bands to make advertisements for. I decided why make up a band when I can help the locals by giving them a real visual image. I created Your Destiny’s Dream, a non-profit program to help other businesses grow and to expand my portfolio. The artwork I created for local musician and businesses lead me to be hired for numerous entertainment companies. Today this program has transformed into an official business, called Your Destiny’s Dream LLC; where I provides mural, design and marketing services. I continue to contribute my art to non-profit organizations such as Wisdom Court Kids Club, Risi Medical Foundation, ChildHelp and more. My hope is to inspire people to help others and grow together instead of destroying each other. With my work I wants to share my passion of art, music, collaboration and helping nonprofits.

ALAN PARKER

Alan Parker, being fortunate to have grown up in DC and Rockville, was exposed to art from when he was young. He lived a just a mile from the galleries and museums in DC, which began for him a lifetime love of the mall. Later he moved to Rockville, and through his teens his parents took him to galleries in DC, NY, and elsewhere. Once he discovered and purchased a book from the Renwick, which demonstrated the use of various shapes, colors, the placement of objects on a page, and more along those lines. Maybe it started there. He did not actually tap into his own creative side until many years later. In fact, never thought of it, until one night in college just started drawing.

Within a few years, he was drawing all the time. With his one and only one chance to take an elective at the University of Maryland, he took composition. It was a wonderful class, and maintains that he incorporates the basic principals in each image, and still has the syllabus and all the projects. But that ended formal training, and he went back to drawing, until one day, in the late 90’s, he got…a scanner. The scanner came with Photodelux 1.0, a simple version of Photoshop.

By scanning his drawings and filtering them, “Alanart” (his brother’s name) began. The range of images now include photography, drawings, pastels, and digital designs made entirely with Photoshop. The drawings are generally scanned into Photoshop, and he enhances the colors- mostly only the colors- and occasionally adds additional filters. He is now also busy making slides shows and is planing by 2017 to learn animation.

Alan’s pieces have sold in coffee shops in Alexandria and Takoma Park, at a festival in Alexandria, online, and at auctions in Baltimore. In several cases, people have bought from the samples. His art has been on a CD cover, a wedding invitation, and a billboard in Baltimore rising over Penn Station.

Note- Regarding the prints-each is honestly unique. No two are the same. he says to free to rename, and/or turn any direction at all, regardless of the signature. Occasionally, he makes multiples in color variations, but then only a very, few and never quite similar.

I believe that stimulation and appreciation of art is a natural part of the human mind, just as much as the part that wants companionship and the part that seeks adventure. Not everyone taps into that part as much as others, but it is there. I believe the best art- in any medium- enables and encourages the listener, or viewer, or reader to participate, to engage the imagination.

In keeping with the predominately abstract themes, to whatever comes to mind, to feel whatever you feel.

Alan’s art is on Zazzle.com under Alanart.

Supreme is a living example of an intuitive artist whose work reflects his dedication, precision, focus and the determination to re-introduce a unique brand of creativity to the forefront of our era.
Solely – (adv.) “Without another, to the exclusion of all else.”
Supreme – (adj.)“Absolute but crowning, excellent, extreme, final, first, incomparable, marvelous, unmatched, unparalleled…”
His signature art form of eye-catching and immaculate geometric abstract
paintings, which he coins “Perfectionism”, tells a detailed story through the use of
select colors and shape in precise locations. As he revisits his life experiences through each brushstroke, meaningful emotion and vibrancy is boldly conveyed. With focus and attention to detail, his pieces go through a strenuous three to four week progression to ensure the greatest accuracy, which even at that point will be recreated at the first
sight of the slightest flaw.
Striving to inspire creativity in others through his larger-than-life paintings,
Supreme’s profound love and dedication to his craft sets him in motion to further his
career, as he plans on exhibiting his work in galleries and museums worldwide.

Benjamin Jancewicz is a Baltimore, Maryland based visual artist whose work is shown in galleries, cafes and homes around the United States and Canada. He joins a cadre of creatives pioneering the vector technique. Trained in several traditional art forms, including photography, screenprinting, sculpture and painting, Benjamin has found vector art to be a fulfilling and exciting new manifestation of his creative vision. As a vector artist, he uses the emerging form to create compelling pieces that share stories and inspire action.

His first full collection using the technique, the Who Said What Show, is a constantly growing set of pieces that engage the audience in the work’s creation as well as consumption. People from all walks of life submit powerful quotes from icons that range from the popular to the obscure. Thus begins a painstaking process of research, drawing and design that results in a hauntingly beautiful vector portrait. The final piece features a rare image of the quote’s author and the quote itself, written using the fonts of emerging and often unknown typographers.

The collection has been both a critical and commercial success, resulting in over 50 showings, private purchases, and high demand as demonstrated by the continued submission of new quotes from people all around the world. It has also inspired subsequent collections, including Benjamin’s upcoming work “The Robots Are Coming”.

Benjamin’s experimentation with vector art began in college with a rendering of the Biblical story of Dina and Shechem, reimagined as a tragic, cross-cultural love story. Despite his immediate attachment to the technique, this most recent phase of Benjamin’s artistry comes after over a decade of creative work in other genres.

He and his wife, best friend & business partner, Tamika, are the founders of their design agency Zerflin, and are parents to two wonderful children, Nya and Arion.

SPENCER JOYCE

I’ve been singing since before I could talk, and been playing guitar since I was 15. After I played my first open-mic at my high school in 2010, I immediately knew what I wanted to do the rest of my life.

Having no real connections in the misic biz, I decided to take matters into my own hands and recorded my debut album, “Overnight Rockstar” on the Garageband app on my iPhone. This album got the attention of Daniel Hill of Alchemical Records, who signed me in September 2013, and we released the album to online retailers March 2014. Since then, I’ve been gigging my ass off in Northern Virginia, DC, Richmond, Baltimore, and my new hometown Annapolis. I’ve also toured as far south as Charlotte and as far north as New York City.

Summer 2016 will see me release my new EP, “August Is The Sunday Of The Year” which was recorded at For The Record Productions in Harrisonburg, VA. The teaser single, “Elephant In A Jar” is now available on iTunes.

My goal with my music is to bring people together and help people not think about the crap thats going on in their world and our world.

SOFRESH

I am a self taught artist from Baltimore. As a kid growing up in the city, art was a way of escaping the streets. I would pick up a pencil and imagine what it would be like to go to California, or to be a basketball player, then I would draw it out. Art is my out, my way of talking to the world, and expressing myself. As I got older I began looking for ways to showcase, my colorful imagination, so I enter a few, contest, festivals, and things of that nature. I am very passionate about all forms of art, I just love the world of expression.

DOUG HEIFETZ

Lost & Forged is the product of my passion for creative metalwork and jewelry making. I seek out old objects – largely discarded, irrelevant and forgotten ones – and give them new purpose and beauty. I shape and re-purpose them using traditional silversmith hand forging techniques, sculpting, engraving, polishing, soldering, stone setting and more. For my main material, I focus on silver flatware – so many beautiful pieces lie stowed away, underutilized and forgotten, waiting for new life. I also use vintage watches and other recycled materials. My creations fit a lot of possible category terms: upcycled, recycled, repurposed, altered, found object art, etc.
I make my all of my jewelry and other metalwork crafts in my home workshop in Silver Spring, Maryland, using recycled vintage and antique materials.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC47rnc6r5kxbfpbq3eWv6zA

My name is Nicole Johnson and I am a surface design artist. I graduated cum laude from Moore College
of Art + Design in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Textile Design. Since graduating,
I have worked in both creative and non-creative work environments. Currently, in my full time day job, I
am an Executive Assistant. Outside of the office, I spend my time balancing my two amazing kids and
time in my home studio. For a long time my personal art and creativity had taken a back seat to being a
mother and working full time. The art supplies sat untouched, sometimes used only once or twice a
year. Self-expression through a creative process seemed out of my grasp for many years, and I gave up.

As a Textile Designer, creating was regimented always with plans and restrictions; emotions were not a
part of my earlier work. My beginner’s portfolio consisted of works created with color forecasted by the
fashion world. Theme, subject, and specific sets of repeat guidelines dictated my design. My own
enjoyment and expression were not often a part of the process. Even while working towards my BFA,
the freedom of self-expression seemed just out of my reach and at times a luxury I wasn’t afforded. I
envied the 2D and 3D fine artists around me. Their freedom to choose their own process and vision was
fascinating to me, how did they connect to that? Finally, after facing a few major life changes, I felt it
necessary to make the time to be creative, quietly and personally; creativity on my own terms. I kept it
private so that I could explore my new creative space and thought process. With no pressure to
complete a project, no request to make a family member a piece of art or craft, no plans to make
money, no deadlines, the only purpose was to create whatever felt good in the moment – for me. There
has been an amazing cathartic release in processing my feelings through my work.

Through exploring these creative possibilities I purchased a faded print in a beautiful frame at a local
Goodwill store. In local consignment shops and thrift stores one can find canvases with printed and
painted images. Some are merely discarded, others are often stretched on frames that are the wrong
size, the frame is damaged, the art is faded, or owners are just tired of looking at it and replace it. I
purchased a few with the intention of seeing if I could repurpose something once discarded. Currently, I
have a collection of canvases, board and frames and use them in my own artwork. It has been a
wonderful process to leave areas of the original work (memories) as inspiration and guidance for the
new art (possibilities). I feel positive about the “recycle/repurpose” part of this journey. Not only am I
finding a way to bring something old or used back to life, I keep it from the landfills. I am teaching my
children that we can reuse things that we might otherwise discard and above all I am challenged to use
what was there in a new piece of artwork. Often artists find a blank surface intimidating but having a
surface with something present to work with, as a springboard to create is exciting to me.

Through experimenting in painting, drawing and rekindling my artistic voice I have found that I make a
lot of circles and spirals and that the process of making this circular motion is relaxing and healing.
Patterns and colors are what soothe my soul and circles are the means to express it. Circles are present
in all of my current work. They not only are relaxing to make they represent my continuous spiritual,
emotional and creative journeys. Circles are always progressing and spiraling forward, they are a
metaphor just as the recycling of an old canvas represents the forward movement, and so do they.
